Biotechnology

The aim of the program is to prepare and train engineers in the field of biotechnology with solid knowledge in the fundamental field (chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, genetic engineering, cellular and molecular biology, enzymology, etc.) and specialized fields (fermentative biotechnologies, waste recovery biotechnologies, enzyme and protein biotechnology, bioinformatics, food biotechnologies, pharmaceutical biotechnologies, agricultural biotechnologies, conditioning and preservation of biotechnological products, industrialization of agri-food products, laboratory diagnosis of plant diseases, biotechnological products for animal therapy, etc.).

Examples of skills acquired by graduates upon completion of their studies

  • carries out chemical experiments
  • uses specialized equipment
  • performs microbiological analyzes of food
  • performs laboratory tests
  • performs laboratory simulations
  • ensure the conservation of natural resources
  • apply good manufacturing practices (GMP)
  • applies the HACCP method (risk analysis and critical control points)
  • identifies characteristics of plants
  • conducts scientific research
  • applies safety procedures in the laboratory

The theoretical and practical knowledge acquired over the four years of study allow graduates of this study program to subsequently work in various fields, such as: agriculture (plant breeding or micropropagation laboratories, phytosanitary control and diagnostic laboratories, etc.), the food industry (obtaining and processing food resources of plant and animal origin, superior valorization of by-products from the agri-food industry, etc.), the pharmaceutical field (detergent industry, cosmetics industry, obtaining medicines, supplements, veterinary products, etc.), environmental protection, feed obtaining, scientific research, etc.
